Silent

I was a public school teacher at the George Washington Middle School in Alexandria, Virginia on that fateful morning of September 11, 2001.  That morning I took the metro to work, passing under the Pentagon some 25 minutes before it was hit.  The events of that day have been told and re-told in all its horror, but few have aimed to tell of the positive results that were experienced that day, results that were years in the making.  I thank God for the Advent message—one that puts due focus on the fact that Jesus is coming soon, and that along with study of His life, and the plan of salvation, time should be devoted to studying what the Bible has to say about end time events.  I faced the terror fearlessly.  When I turned the television in my classroom on and saw the incredible sights, when the fuel of the jet that crashed into the Pentagon ignited and the explosion rocked the little trailer where I was teaching some 4 – 5 miles away, I bore it all without fear.  Why? Because I was already informed.  God made it a point not to leave His people in the dark about what to expect as time winds down.  In the weeks following 9/11, there was a flurry of religious activity.  Thousands who had left the church, as well as many unbelievers suddenly got their lives ‘right’.  Interesting, it took an event like 9/11 to get many to think seriously about eternity.  However, the most disheartening thing was the fact that so many people are well-informed about end time events, and they fail to share the blessed hope that Jesus is coming soon, and that all peoples need to make plans to meet Him!  I wrote Silent? immediately after 9/11, for end-time Christians everywhere.

At a time like now,
Where is the remnant?
Does she realize how great is her task?
In the midst of fire, storm and a world on a course to destruction,
How can I keep silent?

It's now been almost 8 years since that terrible day in American history.  For whatever reason, Jesus has delayed His return, perhaps so that many of us can get our relationship with Him where it should be.  What have we done in the meantime since 9/11?  Are our lives dedicated towards sharing His love and the good news of Salvation with others?  Do we prefer to shy away from conversations about things of eternal value?  My friend, if the blessed hope of Christ's eminent return has inspired you, don't sit on it–share it!  There are many who are dying each day without the knowledge of a God who loves them.  Don't let anyone have to say to you, "How could you have known all this, and not tell me?"
